Our Story

The Bonny-Ike Cancer Foundation was founded in loving memory of Mazi Chidi Boniface Ike and his wife, Ngozi. Fondly known as Mazi, he bravely battled bowel cancer for three years before ultimately finding eternal rest on 15th March 2017. His passing marked not the end, but the beginning of a lasting legacy dedicated to cancer awareness and support.
Towards the final chapter of his life, Mazi gathered his family and close friends, urging them to dedicate themselves to a cause greater than themselves—promoting cancer awareness, advocating for healthy lifestyles, and creating spaces where individuals could openly discuss their well-being. Though he succumbed to cancer, his unwavering spirit and legacy remain evergreen, forming the foundation upon which we continue to build and grow.
During his memorial, funds were raised to transform his cherished cancer awareness blog, “Greenleaves,” into what is now the Bonny-Ike Cancer Foundation. This initial seed money, along with generous contributions from family and friends, has sustained the foundation’s mission to improve lives, particularly for those affected by cancer.
Bonny-Ike Cancer Foundation Nigeria is a registered charity committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.
Although Mazi was a British citizen, he was born in Nigeria, where he was eventually repatriated and laid to rest. Funds raised during his burial contributed to the formal registration of the foundation, solidifying his vision into a structured and impactful organisation.
At the heart of the Bonny-Ike Cancer Foundation lies an unyielding passion for cancer awareness. Through health and well-being programmes, we aim to empower individuals with knowledge and resources, ensuring that no one facing cancer has to endure the journey alone. Beyond this, we extend our reach to support widows and orphans, providing assistance with school fees, medical expenses, food, shelter, and business start-ups. We also offer counselling, emotional guidance, and spiritual support to help navigate the vulnerabilities that often accompany loss.
Mazi’s dream was simple yet profound—to create a world where love, care, and support uplift those in need. Through the Bonny-Ike Cancer Foundation, his vision continues to thrive, touching lives and bringing hope to countless individuals.
Together, we honour his memory by making a difference, one life at a time.
